The Soil Association has launched a campaign encouraging members of the public to protest against government plans to implement GM. The campaign follows criticism of the official public consultation being carried out by the Food Standards Agency into GM food as ‘rigged’ and a ‘sham public engagement process’, when two leading advisers working on it resigned earlier this month.

Policy director at the Soil Association, Peter Melchett, called on the FSA to shut down the GM exercise. “Most people could never understand why the last government asked the FSA to carry out what many of us believed was intended to be a pro-GM propaganda exercise,” he said.
